Wayne
Gretzky has been called the greatest player in hockey history
by many. At the time of his retirement from the NHL, he held or
shared 61 League scoring records, including most career goals
(1,016) and assists (2,222). Many believe his record of 92 goals
in a regular season will never be broken. During his Edmonton
years, Gretzky not only won an unprecedented eight straight Hart
Trophies (MVP) from 1980-87 but also led the Oilers to four Stanley
Cup Championships in five years. During his Los Angeles Kings
years he brought attention and prestige to hockey South (way south!)
of the Border. And, of course, Gretzky finished his NHL career
in New York playing for the Rangers and helping the team reach
the Conference Finals in 1997. As one sports columnist commented
at the time of his retirement, Gretzky was "not merely
the best hockey player in the world, but one of the nicest and
most unspoiled."
This autographed hockey stick, which also has the special inscription
"Hall of Fame 2000," is from
Upper Deck, and is a limited edition collection of 199. A great
collectible from "The Great One."
