Bay Area Fooball Legends Together For One Signing |
|
| John Taylor played WR for the 49ers from 1987 to 1995 and was an exceptional counterpart to Hall of Fame teammate Jerry Rice during that time - arguably one of the greatest one-two receiver punches in 49ers history. Taylor is best know for his winning 10-yard touchdown pass from Joe Montana during the final seconds of Super Bowl XXIII in 1989. One of the great moments in 49ers' history, rivaling even "The Catch" by Dwight Clark. But it was the season after his Super Bowl winning touchdown reception that Taylor established himself as one of the top receivers in the NFL. Despite not being the #1 receiver on is team, Taylor finished the 1989 season with 60 receptions for 1,077 yards and ten touchdowns. He broke the 1,000 receiving yard milestone again in the 1991 season with 64 receptions for 1,011 yards and nine touchdowns. In his nine NFL seasons, Taylor recorded 347 receptions for 5,589 yards and 43 touchdowns. He also gained 1,517 yards and two touchdowns returning punts, and added another 276 yards returning kickoffs. An NFL Pro Bowler in 1988 and 1989, Taylor has three Super Bowl rings from his years with the Niners - '88, '89 and '94. | Fullback Tom Rathman's professional football career spanned nine years, the first seven of which were with the San Francisco 49ers. While in San Francisco, Tom was backfield mates with another Nebraska alumnus, Roger Craig. A selfless player and unsung hero in the 49ers' success, Tom spent much of his playing time providing devastating blocks for Craig, helping the Niners capture two World Championships (Super Bowl XXIII and XXIV). In Super Bowl XXIV, he scored two touchdowns in San Francisco's route of the Denver Broncos. Tom totaled 4,392 yards from scrimmage and scored 34 touchdowns while playing in 113 games fro the 49ers. And in 1989, he led all NFL running backs in receiving with 73 receptions for 616 yards! |
