On
Sunday, January 18, 2009, Sharks Stars Ryane
Clowe and Devin Setoguchi rocked Sports
Gallery Los Gatos.
A packed house, line around the block, and screaming
fans greeted these two young stars of the future
for a fun two-hour appearance.
Devin
Setoguchi
is definitely having his break-out season in
2008/09. Born in Taber, Alberta, Canada, the
talented young Winger was drafted by the San
Jose Sharks in the first round, 8th overall,
in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Devin scored his
first two regular-season NHL goals on October
29, 2007, in his first NHL game, playing against
the Dallas Stars, becoming the first Sharks
rookie ever to score two goals in his first
NHL game. And to start the 2008/09 season, new
Sharks head coach Todd McLellan placed "Seto"
on the Sharks top line with perennial All-Stars
Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton - not bad company
to keep. And the promotion has paid off in spades
as Devin has been battling Marleau for top team
scoring honors all season. Just a goal scoring
machine, Devin's career is just getting warmed
up.
Ryane
Clowe
is one of those hard-to-find players that combines
physical toughness with scoring ability. Born
in Fermeuse, Newfoundland, Canada, the right
winger first began showing his hockey skills
to Sharks fan in the 2006/07 season when he
was given the opportunity to play on the first
line and powerplay unit with Patrick Marleau
and Joe Thornton. Clowe responded with a career
high 34 points in 58 games. In the post-season,
he scored his first playoff goal on April 13
in the quarter-final series against the Nashville
Predators. But Clowe is equally known for his
hard checking game and willingness to fight,
making him a fan (and teammate) favorite. Another
bright young star on a team that is simply dominating
the League this season.
Signing
for over two hours and with music provided by
NOS, Ryane and Devin's appearance was one of
our best signing events ever. The store was
packed as the boys chatted and joked with fans,
posed for photos, and signed all kind of items.
It is not hard to see why the Sharks are taking
the Bay Area by storm this season - they are
great on AND OFF the ice!
