Super Bowl Champions John Taylor
and Tom Rathman Sign At Sports Gallery! On
June 8, 2008, Former 49ers John Taylor and Tom Rathman (also a former Raider)
conducted a dual-signing at Sports Gallery's Los Gatos store.
John
Taylor played
WR for the 49ers from 1987 to 1995 and with Hall of Fame teammate Jerry Rice formed
arguably the greatest one-two receiver tandem in 49ers, and perhaps football,
history. Taylor is best know for his winning 10-yard touchdown pass from Joe Montana
during the final seconds of Super Bowl XXIII in 1989. One of the great moments
in 49ers' history, rivaling even "The Catch" by Dwight Clark. But it
was the season after his Super Bowl winning touchdown reception that Taylor established
himself as one of the top receivers in the NFL when John recorded 60 receptions
for 1,077 yards and ten touchdowns. An NFL Pro Bowler in 1988 and 1989, Taylor
has three Super Bowl rings from his years with the Niners - Super Bowls XXIII,
XXIV, and XXIX.
Tom Rathman's
professional football career spanned nine years, the
first seven of which were with the San Francisco 49ers. While in San Francisco,
Tom was backfield mates with another Nebraska alumnus, Roger Craig. A selfless
player and unsung hero in the 49ers' success, Tom spent much of his playing time
providing devastating blocks for Craig, helping the Niners capture two World Championships
(Super Bowl XXIII and XXIV). In Super Bowl XXIV, Rathman scored two touchdowns
in San Francisco's route of the Denver Broncos. In 1989, he led all NFL running
backs in receiving with 73 receptions for 616 yards!
Signing
for over two hours, John and Tom were great guests, chatting with fans, posing
for pictures and signing every type of 49er and collectible imaginable (and even
a few Raiders & Nebraska collectibles by Tom). Check

in the future for information on upcoming in-store appearances and signings.
Thank
you very much to John and Tom for a terrific signing. And most of all thanks to
all the 49er fans that made this such a memorable day.
