Clark & John Taylor Make Special Dual-Signing Appearance @ SGA Palo Alto |
| | | On
Saturday night, May 2, San Francisco 49er Greats Dwight Clark and John Taylor
made a special in-store signing appearance at our
Palo
Alto, CA Gallery in celebration of "The Catch I" and
"II."
Dwight
Clark,
49ers Pro-Bowl Wide Receiver and native of Kinston, North Carolina, played his
college football at Clemson University before being drafted by the San Francisco
in the 10th round of the 1979 Draft. Clark went on to have a stellar career with
the Niners, finishing with 506 catches for 6750 yards and 48 touchdowns. Clark's
most memorable touchdown came in the 1982 NFC Playoffs. On January 11, 1982, against
the Dallas Cowboys, the San Francisco 49ers were trailing 27-21 in the final minute
of play to advance to the Super Bowl. Clark made a leaping catch of a desperation
pass from quarterback Joe Montana in the back of the end zone to give the 49ers
a 28-27 victory. That play, one of the most famous in 49er and NFL history, is
today simply known as "The Catch."
Dwight was a member of two Super Bowl winning clubs and has had his famous number
87 retired by the 49ers. | | | | John
Taylor
played WR for the 49ers from 1987 to 1995 and was an exceptional counterpart to
Hall of Fame teammate Jerry Rice during that time - arguably one of the greatest
one-two receiver punches in 49ers history. Taylor is best know for his winning
10-yard touchdown pass from Joe Montana during the final seconds of Super Bowl
XXIII in 1989. One of the great moments in 49ers' history, rivaling even "The
Catch" by Dwight Clark. But it was the season after his Super Bowl winning
touchdown reception that Taylor established himself as one of the top receivers
in the NFL. Despite not being the #1 receiver on is team, Taylor finished the
1989 season with 60 receptions for 1,077 yards and ten touchdowns. He broke the
1,000 receiving yard milestone again in the 1991 season with 64 receptions for
1,011 yards and nine touchdowns. In his nine NFL seasons, Taylor recorded 347
receptions for 5,589 yards and 43 touchdowns. He also gained 1,517 yards and two
touchdowns returning punts, and added another 276 yards returning kickoffs. An
NFL Pro Bowler in 1988 and 1989, Taylor has three Super Bowl rings from his years
with the Niners - '88, '89 and '94. | | |

| With
an assist from Sourdough Sam, Dwight and John were a great pair, chatting with
Niner fans and signing anything and everything red and gold. Lots of "Catch"
discussions between the Niner Faithful and these football Greats remembering two
of the greatest moments in 49ers history. Great fun for any Niner fan (and us
at SGA!). |
