Giants
Legend and Baseball HOF'er
Willie McCovey Signs @ SGA Palo Alto!
On
Saturday Evening, April 25, Giants Legends and
Baseball HOF'er Willie McCovey returned to Sports
Gallery for a 2-hour signing at our Palo Alto
Gallery.
Willie
McCovey
used a sweeping swing to belt 521 homers and
collect more than 2,200 hits. "Stretch"
led the National League in homers three times
and in RBI twice, also pacing the circuit in
slugging percentage for three consecutive years
(1968-70). McCovey earned National League
MVP honors in 1969, 10 years after earning National
League Rookie of the Year in 1959. Said Sparky
Anderson of the six-time All Star: "If
you pitch to him he'll ruin the baseball. He'd
hit 80 home runs. There's no comparison between
McCovey and anybody else in the League."
One of five San Francisco Giants Hall of Famers,
Willie was elected to the Pro Baseball Hall
of Fame in 1986 and his #44 has been retired
by the Giants.
Signing
for over two hours, Willie was a great signing
guest, chatting with fans, posing for photographs
and signing every type of Giants collectible
imaginable. It was a special evening for all
of us at Sports Gallery, once again hosting
a Giants legend and Hall of Famer.
