Gale Eugene Sayers, also known as "The Kansas Comet" from his Jayhawk days, is a classic Bear. A two-time All-American at Kansas, Sayers was a first-round pick of Chicago in the 1965 NFL Draft. And Sayers burst upon the pro football scene with the kind of impact that the League had not felt in years. In the next-to-last game of his rookie season, playing on a muddy field that would have stalled most runners, Gale scored a record-tying six touchdowns against the San Francisco 49ers. For the entire season, Gale scored 22 touchdowns and 132 points, both then-rookie records, on his way to Rookie of the Year honors. And that was just the beginning. Despite a career limited by injuries, Sayers had an amazing impact in his seven season career including having his #40 retired by the Bears and being elected to both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fames. In addition, his friendship with fellow teammate Brian Piccolo was the basis for the 1971 movie Brian's Song. An All-Time Bear (and member of the NFL's 75th Anniversary Team), this Sports Gallery Exclusive Display features a hand-signed B&W 8x10 photograph and full plate featuring Bears Logo and "Monsters of the Midway." OR YOU CAN CREATE YOUR OWN PLATE! Quality Framed in black wood, UV-protective glass and Classic double matting, this beauty is a timeless collectible AND Sports Art that any Bears fan would cherish.
