    ABOUT THIS COLLECTIBLE

Arnold Palmer vs. Jack Nicklaus: The Greatest Golf Rivalry of all time. And the Nicklaus-Palmer rivalry came at a critical time for the sport of golf, and paved the way for golf becoming the sport it is today. This was especially true in regards to fan interest, and particularly, in regards to television. When Nicklaus entered the professional golf arena, Palmer was the man on top; the player who was widely considered to be the best player in the game. However, Nicklaus rapidly asserted his presence on the game. Palmer came from a poor background, Nicklaus was privileged; Palmer was made for Hollywood, Nicklaus was a chubby kid with a crew cut; Palmer drew the ball, Nicklaus played with a fade. Inevitably, Nicklaus, 11 years the younger, became the enemy of “Arnie’s Army”, which seemed only to spur him on. In the 1962 US Open, his first major as a pro, Nicklaus dared to take the crowd favorite to an 18-hole play-off – and proceeded to beat him. Although Palmer was to win two majors that year (and 7 for his career), Nicklaus proved his superior with 18 majors. The rivalry essentially consisted of this power shift between two golfing legends and the fan base grew dramatically to watch these evenly matched events hanging precociously on every shot. This was a great time for golf and the the greatest rivalry in golf history. This great photograph was taken at the Team Championships Tournament around 1971. A classic photo that highlights both their rivalry and friendship. Sports Gallery offers this great 16x20 or 11x14 photograph as part of our unsigned SGA Signature Series, an affordable alternative to expensive athlete signatures. This beauty is Quality Framed with black moulding and matting and includes an SGA Exclusive inset plate of laser-engraved facsimiles of Palmer & Nicklaus' unique signatures A timeless piece of Sports Art celebrating two of the greatest golfers in history.
