ABOUT THIS COLLECTIBLE
Throughout the 1980's Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics and Magic Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers shared the spotlight as the best players in the NBA. Both led their teams to multiple championships and captivated the nation with their well-publicized rivalry. So much so that these two are often credited with revitalizing interest in the NBA which had fallen on hard times in the late 1970's. But their rivalry actually started pre-NBA when they squared off in the 1979 NCAA Championship Game. The most watched NCAA game ever (at that time), many consider that game to be the one that put the madness in the "March Madness" that we know today. And their rivalry...and popularity...continued into the NBA with each playing on perennial powers on opposite Coasts. With 24 All-Star selections (12 each), 6 MVP Awards (3 each) and 8 NBA Championships (five for Magic; three for Larry) between them, a strong case can be made that these two incredible basketball talents formed the greatest rivalry in sports history. They were certainly one of the most successful. This classic "Retirement Night" 11x14 Photograph is part of our unsigned SGA Signature Series, very cool displays that include an SGA Exclusive engraved facsimile signature Inset Plate (this one with BOTH Larry & Magic's autographs), along with the details of this special evening in Boston Garden. SGA Quality Framed with black wood moulding, glass, and classic matting, this beauty is a wonderful piece of Sports Art celebrating one of the greatest individual rivalries in Sports History.
