During the 1940’s & 50’s, Club El Morocco was a popular restaurant on East 54th Street known for its North African & Middle Eastern cuisine, jazz music, and celebrity diners.  On this particular evening in 1954, the celebrity dinners were THE Entertainment Power Couple of the time, Joe DiMaggio & Marilyn Monroe. Joe DiMaggio played his entire 13-year career for the New York Yankees, leading them to nine World Series Championships!  He was a three-time AL MVP and, remarkably, an All-Star in each of his 13 seasons playing baseball. But he is perhaps best known for his 56-game hitting streak (May 15 – July 16,1941), a record that still stands today.  Oh…that and being married to Marilyn Monroe! Marilyn was a pop icon and perhaps the most famous “sex symbol” in the history of film. EVERYONE loved Marilyn! On this evening, Marilyn and Joe dined at El Morocco as Marilyn had come to NYC to shoot a couple of scenes for a movie.  Joe flew into New York to spend the weekend with his wife...and enjoy a paparazzi-filled night on the town! This classic photograph of the two is part of our Exclusive SGA Signature Series, unsigned displays that include an SGA facsimile signature plate.  In this case we've combined a 12x18-sized (approximately) photo with a plate that features the signatures of BOTH along with the details and date of the evening.  A classic piece of Sports/Entertainment Art from two iconic figures of their time!
