ABOUT THIS COLLECTIBLE
The Oakland Coliseum…or Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum…or just plain “Coliseum”…whatever you call it…is a bit of anomaly in stadiums these days in that it is the only remaining stadium that is shared by professional football and baseball teams. The multi-purpose stadium was all the rage back in the day but today they are as extinct as the dinosaurs. All except in Oakland. That's something for A’s fans to hang their green & yellow hats on…or not. The first crowd filled Oakland Alameda County Coliseum on September 18, 1966 when the AFL’s Oakland Raiders played the Kansas City Chiefs. A year and half later, the first pitch was thrown by the Athletics on April 17, 1968. In the following 50+ years, the Coliseum has hosted a spectrum of events in both the sporting and entertainment world including the legendary “Day on the Green” music festivals of the 70’s, The Rolling Stones, unforgettable Raiders games, and SIX(!) different World Series by the A’s, four of which they won (including 3 in a row by the "Swingin' A's" of the early 70's). But, despite all that history, even the most ardent A’s fan would readily admit that it is a stadium only a die-hard fan could love when it comes to baseball, which probably explains why the A’s always seem to be searching for a new home. This colorful panoramic photo from behind home plate captures The Coliseum in all its glory on a cool East Bay summer evening. This beauty is available in three versions: Standard, Deluxe and Deluxe Patch. Standard is framed in quality black wood moulding. The Deluxe version is framed with black wood moulding, A's double matting, and customized plate that includes the World Series Championship years and "Home Of The Swingin' A's". OR YOU CAN CREATE YOUR OWN PLATE! Finally, the Deluxe Patch adds an inset Athletics Logo patch to our Deluxe Framing. Whichever display option you choose, this beauty is a great piece of Sports Art celebrating an under-appreciated landmark of Oakland sports history.
